The official opening of the Glasgow transport Museum at Kelvin Hall was performed by HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, took place on Tuesday April 14th, 1964 at the museums previous location on the south side, in what had been the Corporation Transport tramcar workshops in Albert Drive, Coplawhill. It is apprpriate, therfore, that one of the main features of the collection was, a splendid selection of Glasgow ‘caurs’, ranging from a horse drawn example to the still modern looking Voranation and Cunarder types which were in operation until trams were withdrawn in 1962. Full-size Scottish railway locomotives and motor cars are also on display.
