Staircase incorrectly said to be a copy of the Paris Opera House.The factory was built between 1905 & 1906 at a cost of ë£220.000. The Architect was Charles Halley.Alexander Govan paid ë£250.000 for the site in 1905 to build his factory, today’s restoration cost ë£6 Million. In 1935 the admiralty purchased the Argyll Factory for the production of torpedo’s and it is still known locally as the torpedo Factory although production ceased in 1969. The building was classed as being of outstanding architectural and historic interest and was upgraded to ‘A’ listed status in July of 86.
