A couple of people with car registration number SF 4007 this was a hire car from Leasks. The picture was taken outside Raewick Hotel, Mainland, Shetland Isles, May 1929 The Oakland was an American marque in the twenties shipped across the Atlantic from Pontiac, Michigan. In the mid twenties import duty was increased in an attempt to stimulate the British market and stem the flow from the USA although in order to circumvent this legislation certain US manufacturers used devious means to avoid paying penalties, such as Buick who had their British exports transported from a Canadian factory. This was shipped even further when it was purchased second hand by Leask of Lerwick, Mainland, Shetland Isles. SF 4007 was new in Edinburgh in 1926, later passing to John Leask who operated it as a hire car.
