Apart from short lived experiments in the early days of bus operation, the first Corporation bus service to be one man operated was the 40 service from Cathcart to Hillington to be followed by the 21 from Midland Street to Pollock. Both were converted to OMO in 1965 and operated by Newlands garage. Alexander bodied Leyland Panther LS32, registration GYS 878 D, departs murky Midland Street terminus which lay under the Central Station railway bridge.
