Seen here heading for Sumburgh from Lerwick is Leasks bus caught in the heavy snows of 1955 when the main road from Lerwick to the south mainland became impassable, was his only Bedford bus, was diverted via Scalloway and Gulberwick Junction in order to reach the island airport at Sumburgh. John Leask of Lerwick was the longest established operator in the Shetland Isles. This 1950 Bedford OB was registered as SL 3474 was later replaced in that year with the introduction of the Bedford SB model. The OB was bought in 1950 and in 1963 went to Johnson’s of Scalloway.
